Rebecca Barnett is in-demand performer and teacher. She holds a position in the United States Army Band, Pershing’s Own Strings and manages a competitive private teaching studio.

She performs at prestigious venues around the Washington DC area, including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the White House, and the US Capitol. Her most recent international performance took her to Beirut, Lebanon, where she performed as both a soloist and chamber musician in June 2019.

Rebecca is strongly passionate about chamber music. She has performed chamber works at Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Innsbrook Summer Academy and Festival, and the National Symphony Summer Music Institute.

As a soloist, she performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the Montgomery College Orchestra. Further, she was a finalist in the University of Maryland Concerto Competition in both 2016 and 2017, for her performances of the Bowen and Rozsa viola concertos. She was also recently awarded the Richard Louis Caplan Memorial Scholarship, and was the 3rd Prize winner of the 2015-16 EnKor International Music Competition for Strings.

A dedicated orchestral musician, Rebecca has had the privilege of leading the viola section as principal of the Rice Opera Orchestra. Further, she served as principal viola of the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra on several concert cycles. She has also played in the Mendocino Music Festival Orchestra, the Colorado College Music Festival Orchestra, the Texas Music Festival orchestra, and the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra.

A strong advocate for new music, she has collaborated with several living composers. She has premiered many new works at events such as the NextNow Festival and TEMPO concerts at the University of Maryland. She was also a participating member of ‘Citizen Displaced’, a collaborative work of new music, improvisation, and dance. The project aimed at raising money for the refugee crises.

An in-demand teacher, Rebecca has 10+ years of private teaching experience, and has taught over 50 students over her career thus far. She teaches in Montgomery County, MD, serving Gaithersburg, Rockville, Germantown, and surrounding areas. She has coached chamber music for MCYO, the Montgomery Classic Youth Orchestras. Previously, she served on faculty at the International School of Music, Vivo School of Music, and Clear Creek ISD High School. She has also taught viola to non-majors at Rice University. Her students have received superior rankings at solo and ensemble festivals and have been selected to play in competitive youth and regional orchestras such as All County Orchestra, MCYO, and PVYO.

She completed her Masters Degree at Rice University in May 2020, and also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the University of Maryland. She began her musical studies at the Peabody Preparatory.
